Leper Villages

By Tram Vu, July 1, 2022

In some parts of Vietnam, there are still places referred to as “leper villages,” where individuals suffering from leprosy gather. These communities often rely on donations of food, clothing, and love rice to survive.

These villages are typically isolated from the rest of society due to the stigma associated with leprosy. Despite advancements in medical treatment, the social and economic challenges faced by residents are significant. Many of the inhabitants have been abandoned by their families and have limited access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.

Charitable organizations and volunteers play a crucial role in supporting these communities. They provide essential supplies, medical care, and emotional support, helping to improve the quality of life for those affected.

Efforts are also made to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding leprosy, promoting a more inclusive and compassionate society.

The Free Lunch Restaurant for the poor people

Saigon is still very different from the old socialist Hanoi. Saigon people drive less chaotically and less disorderly.

They also know how to respect the elderly and especially have a compassionate heart towards the poor and the unfortunate.

The following stories about the charity noodle box and the free meal are typical examples.

  • Free Lunch for the Poor Restaurant run by a senior lady.
  • Restaurant for the patients of the Cancer Hospital in Saigon City.
  • Free Instant Noodle box for hungry pedestrians.
